Once upon a time, there was a Zen master who lived in a small village. He was known for his wisdom and peaceful nature, and many people came to him for advice. One day, a young man came to him with a problem. The young man said, "Master, I can't stop thinking. My mind is always racing with thoughts, and it's making me miserable. Can you help me?"
The Zen master listened carefully and then took the young man to a nearby river. He told the young man to watch the river as it flowed by. The young man watched as the water flowed smoothly and steadily, without a care in the world. The Zen master then asked the young man, "What do you see?" The young man replied, "I see the water flowing." The Zen master nodded and said, "Just like the water flowing in the river, your thoughts should flow smoothly and without attachment. Don't get caught up in them, just let them flow by."
The young man was confused. "But how can I do that?" he asked. The Zen master smiled and said, "By being mindful of your thoughts. Notice when your mind starts to race, and simply observe the thoughts without getting caught up in them. Don't judge them or try to change them, just let them be and watch them flow by like the water in the river."

The young man practiced this mindfulness technique every day, and soon he found that his mind was much more peaceful. He was able to let go of his thoughts and just be present at the moment. He was no longer a slave to his thoughts, and he was able to live a much more fulfilling life.
The Zen master's advice can be applied to our daily lives. We often get caught up in our thoughts and worries, and this can lead to stress and unhappiness. By being mindful of our thoughts and not getting caught up in them, we can let them flow by like the water in the river. We can live in the present moment and find peace and happiness.
In summary, the Zen master taught the young man to observe his thoughts as they flow, like water in a river, without getting caught up in them. He advised him to practice mindfulness and to be present at the moment, rather than dwelling in the past or worrying about the future. This is the key to stopping overthinking and finding peace and happiness in life.
