Everyone says payroll documentation is critical, but is more always better? Not necessarily.
- Documentation Fatigue: Overwhelming teams with endless documentation can lead to disengagement. If people are more focused on updating manuals than processing payroll, you have a problem.
- Redundancy Risks: Multiple teams creating documentation for the same processes often leads to duplication, wasting time and effort.
- Static vs. Dynamic: A thick payroll manual collecting dust is useless. If documentation isn’t agile, regularly updated, and truly useful, it can actually slow down your payroll operation.

4 个月Agree - over documentation can become a bureaucratic burden. However, I think that one myth that people may fall victim to is: Less bureaucracy = Good; And unfortunately, this doesn't work at scale. For small businesses, yes, for sure. Quick decision-making, fast payment cycles, etc. But I think there is a lack of understanding that the appropriate amount of documentation/bureaucracy lies on a sliding scale?that needs to be adjusted as your business grows. And the way you streamline processes will change as well. People are quick to say - that you need to streamline the process without actually mentioning how you are going to do so. For some businesses, it might just be a question of hiring an additional accountant (I'm sure?this will very often be sufficient). But at a point (I believe) of 100+, you actually need a system in place to start managing the process. And at a 300+, you start to really optimizing each step and create powerful bureaucracies

4 个月Couldn't agree more! Too much documentation can turn into a bottleneck. Streamlining processes not only keeps the team engaged but also saves valuable time and resources.

4 个月Excellent point - the tendency to have over documentation is a burden! How would you suggest to automate the process while eliminating the over documentation?
