Stop Neglecting This and You'll Feel Happier!

Okay, this sounds like a weird question, but bare with me and it'll make sense pretty soon…

How do you know when you’re hungry? When you’re thirsty?

Your body tells you, right?

It sends you signals via body sensations, which impacts your mood, and you eventually get the point that you’re hungry or thirsty. You know you need to eat or grab a drink. If you don’t, you know that feeling will get stronger and more annoying.

True?

The same is true with our other needs too.

When we don’t tend to our emotional needs…When we don’t nourish our mind adequately…When we restrict social engagement that actually fills us up…

 

Our body reacts.It sends us messages via body sensations and impacts our moods.

Except, most of the time, the busy adult does not listen.

Not necessarily because you don’t want to, but often because you don’t know how, or it feels overwhelming, or because you don’t know what the hell your body is trying to communicate.


I see this happen all the time.

 

Listening to and tending to our emotional, mental and relational needs seems like a simple thing, but gets passed over by busy professionals all the time, for justifications like the need to be “efficient”, “available” and “productive”.

“There’s so much to do, but I’m exhausted”... so you push yourself harder until you crash. Your body and headaches were telling you to slow down and take a break earlier.

“He/she never gets it, so I don’t even bother to say how I feel”... so you shove the feelings down as far as they can go, or get passive aggressive. Your brain had been telling you through these strong feelings, that something mattered to you and needed to be acknowledged by you.

...and so on and so forth.

When we don’t listen to the needs, they don’t get met, and so they communicate louder, stronger, and more creatively.

The benefit of knowing that the symptoms you’re wanting to get rid of, like overwhelm, restlessness, resentment, guilt, chronic stress, etc.- they can be relieved by getting the underlying needs met.

Like you can feed your body when it’s hungry and get water when you know it is thirsty, you can become aware of the other needs your body is communicating to you, and you can then learn how to nourish them too!
