Stop Making These Ridiculous Facebook Business Mistakes

Some business pages have it and some just don’t. A presence. Excitement. An always-engaged audience. Some pages make posts that aren’t creative, simply make no sense, and don’t leave their fans craving more. Which category does your page fall into? If it’s the latter, it may be because you’re making some of these mistakes.
Poor Grammar and Sentence Structure
Don’t you dare say, “It’s the way people talk and type these days.” You’re a business professional attempting to create a business presence. Proper grammar counts. Punctuation counts. It really does bother people to see poorly written web content. Don’t believe anyone who tells you otherwise.
You are Self-Promotional
Take a look at your Facebook timeline and tell me what you see. Is it all about you and your products or are you sharing good, solid pieces of information your fans can benefit from? All self-promotional content all the time is boring.
Your Content Makes No Sense
We know you want to have fun and shake things up a bit, but going too far off-base could seriously confuse your fans. For example, National Dog Day is pretty cool and potentially fun. If you own a salon, how are you going to make dogs relate to hair? Can you post a picture of your own dog at work with you? Can you even loosely connect the two subjects? If not, don’t post.
And some subjects? They should just be avoided. If you’re not in politics, don’t be political. Avoid religion, sensitive subjects, and anything that is guaranteed to start a debate or argument.
You’re Rude and Unprofessional
Look – we get it. Sometimes people just get on your nerves. You’re going to need a thicker skin if you want a strong social presence, though. Not everyone is going to agree with you or love your products. The best way to handle negative feedback is quietly, by making a public acknowledgement - “Hey, we’ll send you a private message” – or asking the person to contact your customer service department. Some people just like to make noise. Do not argue, call people names, tell them they’re stupid, or otherwise let loose any of the other unsavory things you may be thinking. The customer may not always be right, but you don’t have to tell the world on social media.
