To persevere in the midst of chaos, it’s critical we have clarity around our Purpose in this life. We need to know what our ‘Non-Negotiables’ are, the proverbial hills we are willing to die upon. Our Core Values serve as our rudder, allowing us to steer our lives toward the North Star vision we have of our future.
Carve Out Space to Reflect
Regardless of how 2020 treated you, it’s that season when we allow ourselves to step back and reflect upon the year that was.
- What did I accomplish in 2020? What did I want to accomplish but never got around to doing?
- Did I hit my professional goals? Why, or why not?
- How am I doing as a husband/wife/partner? As a father/mother?
- Am I the leader I want to be at work? At home?
Questions like these require time and space to answer. When working with my coaching clients, I start any Vision Casting or Goal Setting exercise by revisiting their Core Values and their ‘Why’.
