Stop Logisizing

I’ve done it again – created a new word. Today’s new word is “logisize” – it refers to the process of logically analyzing things, questions and situations. In other words, figuring things out. While there is a time and place for figuring things out, sometimes the best strategy is to shut up and listen.
Earlier this year I sold my house and I needed to decide where I should live next. What city, and what area in that city? People kept asking me if I had figured it out, and I told them that I wasn’t going to figure it out. Instead, I was going to let the answer come to me. And that’s exactly what I did.
I asked myself this question: Where is my place?
And I listened.
I stayed quiet and never analyzed it or “logisized” it. I shut up and listened to what came to me. After a while, including my time on the Camino de Santiago, I found myself noticing houses and condominiums in the northeast Ohio area. As I started exploring them, it felt right.
This week, I close on a townhouse in Avon Lake. The answer came to me when I was silent and not trying to figure it out.
Perhaps if I had analyzed everything I might have made the same decision, but I feel much more confident knowing the decision came to me in the silence. The answer was provided when I just listened – I let myself have an experience that led to my answer.
There will always be a place for logic, for figuring things out – but many decisions are best left to your heart, feeling and intuition. These things are difficult to access when you’re locked into logic.
My invitation – stop “logisizing” and let yourself find the answers a different way. I know you’ll find that experience more insightful than any analysis you undertake.

7 年Great article Jeff Nischwitz! I tend to over-think everything. When I stop and let silence take over, I tend to make the best decisions and have the most clarity.
