Stop Letting Anxiety Ruin Your Job Interviews

Even when you’re prepared and know you’d be amazing, anxiety can sneak in the side door of your interview and sabotage you.
If you’ve ever blanked on a question or felt like the whole room knew you were pitting out your shirt, you’re not alone. And the good news? Interviews don't have to be this way.
Why Job Interview Anxiety Feels So Overwhelming
Anxiety loves to mess with your head, starting with sneaky thoughts like:
From there, your body jumps into fight-or-flight mode, making your heart race, your hands (or sometimes your whole body) shake, and forget about thinking clearly.
And, if you’ve had a rough interview before, your brain holds onto that bad experience as “proof” it’ll happen again, so it's no wonder that it gets worse in every interview or review.
Your past is sabotaging you in the most loving, protective, and awful way.
How to Stay Calm and Confident
Learning to manage your mind and body helps you create an off-ramp so you can break the anxiety cycle.
Here are a few quick tips to help:
?? Challenge Your Thoughts: When your brain starts saying, “I’m terrible at interviews,” ask yourself, "Is that really true?"
Shift your focus to finding evidence as proof that shows you what you want to believe: I’ve prepared, and I’m ready to show them what I’ve got.
?? Calm Your Body: Anxiety is as physical as it is mental. Try controlled breathing: inhale for 4 counts, hold for 4, and exhale for 6.
Ground yourself by focusing on your senses. Feel your feet on the floor or the temperature of the air moving in and out of your nose.
?? Practice Success: Visualize yourself walking into the interview feeling calm and confident. Picture answering questions with confidence, a smile on your face, and connecting with the interviewer.
Your brain will treat it like a real experience, helping you show up as the version of yourself you imagined.
