Stop Fooling Yourself

Meeno sat in her cozy little room, her laptop perched on a stack of old magazines. The screen cast a blue glow over her eager face as she scrolled through an endless stream of online ads promising riches with no effort. Her eyes sparkled every time she saw phrases like “earn thousands from home!” or “no skills needed, just click and cash in!”

“Who needs skills or investment when you have the internet?” Meeno mused, feeling smug. “This time, I’ll be rolling in money!”

She clicked on an ad that read, “Make $10,000 a week just by watching videos!” It led her to a sleek website with testimonials from people who supposedly earned millions by simply doing nothing. One testimonial featured a guy named Bob, grinning widely in front of a sports car. “I never thought I could earn this much just by sitting at home. Thank you, Money Maker Pro!”

Meeno was sold. “If Bob can do it, so can I!”

She quickly signed up, entering her email, phone number, and—after some hesitation—her credit card details for a “small processing fee.” A confirmation email popped up instantly, and Meeno felt a surge of excitement. She was just moments away from joining the ranks of the rich and carefree.

The next morning, Meeno checked her email, expecting to see her first payment. Instead, there was a message from “Money Maker Pro Support.”

“Dear Meeno, congratulations on your first step to financial freedom! To unlock your full earning potential, please purchase our premium package for just $499.99!”

Meeno frowned but didn’t think twice. “It’s an investment in my future,” she reasoned and clicked “Buy Now.”

Days passed, and the only thing Meeno received were more emails urging her to buy additional packages and join exclusive clubs that would supposedly skyrocket her earnings. Meanwhile, her bank account balance was plummeting.

One afternoon, while daydreaming about her future mansion, Meeno’s phone buzzed. It was a message from her bank: “Your account is overdrawn.”

Panic set in. She frantically tried to contact Money Maker Pro, but the website had vanished, and the support email bounced back. Meeno stared at her screen, realizing she’d been duped again.

Just as despair was about to take hold, Meeno’s friend, Zara, called. Zara was the practical one of the duo, always reminding Meeno to be cautious.

“Meeno, you didn’t fall for another one of those scams, did you?” Zara asked, half-amused, half-concerned.

“Well… maybe,” Meeno admitted sheepishly.

Zara laughed. “You’re hopeless! Listen, how about we set up a real online business together? I’ve been researching drop shipping, and it actually works if you put in the effort.”

“Effort?” Meeno groaned. “But Zara, I was so close this time!”

“Close to being broke,” Zara teased. “Come on, it’ll be fun. We can brainstorm together, and I’ll make sure you don’t end up in another mess.”

Reluctantly, Meeno agreed. The next few weeks were a whirlwind of learning, planning, and—much to Meeno’s surprise—working. It wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t instant, but slowly, things started to click. The online store they created began to make small, steady profits.

One evening, as Meeno watched their first successful sale notification pop up, Zara nudged her. “See? Earning online isn’t about shortcuts. It’s about finding what works and sticking with it.”

Meeno smiled. “I guess you’re right. But you know, Zara, if I ever find a way to earn big without doing anything…”

“You’ll ignore it and keep working,” Zara interrupted with a grin. “Or else I’ll make sure you’re blocked from every get-rich-quick website out there!”

They both laughed, and for the first time, Meeno realized that maybe earning online was less about instant riches and more about enjoying the journey—even if it meant a little work.
