Having a way of quickly turning off emotional arousal is the key to resolving brain hijacks as well as being the key to resolving the long term build up of stress so many of us experience.
Fortunately, there is a very easy way to do that and one that does not involve tablets, lotions or potions, alcohol or anything weird.?
Make a start by monitoring your own breathing pattern as it is at the moment.?
Simply sit quietly for a few minutes and notice where the breath is coming from.?Try putting one hand on your chest and the other on your stomach. ?
Is the movement as you breathe high in your chest or lower down in the abdomen??
If you count as you breathe, what are the numbers??
Is the out breath longer than the in breath or the other way around??

What was your count?
Was the out breath longer than the in breath or did you feel as though you were shallow breathing or even holding your breath? Some people say they don’t feel like they are breathing at all!
Breathing in and breathing out.?It’s something we do all of the time without giving it a second thought. However, it’s really worth noticing if your breathing pattern is shallow or fast so you can make a conscious effort to deepen it and slow it down.
The extra oxygen will benefit you and your mind in so many ways.
In fact, really understanding the many benefits of breath control for managing stress is what will motivate you to start a daily breathing practice and keep it up.
