Stop Doing THIS and Watch Your Your LinkedIn Content Reach More Viewers

Hey there, LinkedIn friends! ?? Are you feeling the heat of the platform but not seeing the results you've expected? You're not alone. Many of us have been lured into the world of LinkedIn by the charismatic Gary Vee, expecting an instant lead bonanza and a skyrocketing click-through rate. But hold on a minute! If you're posting away like a machine but your metrics are as cold as my forgotten morning coffee, it's time to take a step back and reevaluate your content strategy.

Let's break down the major pitfalls that might be turning away viewers from your LinkedIn content:

1. Stop Posting and Ghosting

You, effectively ghosting your network. Come back, please!

Sure, you've got a life outside of social media, and it might seem overwhelming if you think you need to engage all day in order to get views. That’s really not the case. Regardless of whether you posted that day or not, you should be engaging with your connections.?

Here are a few habits you can add to your Linkedin etiquette so you can elevate your engagement:?

  • Make it a habit to CONGRATULATE people in your network when they join a new role. Linkedin notifications typically notify you when your connection starts a new role or has a birthday. Don’t skip this, but also, don't be a creep about it.
  • COMMENT on articles/posts to ADD value. Don’t just comment “wow that's so cool.” Give people a reason to be curious about your page. Generic comments aren’t going to cut it anymore.
  • If someone expresses positive feedback about your content, don’t be so shy that you miss the opportunity of asking them to share it. ASK and you shall receive.?
  • SHARE other creators' content that resonates with your core values.?

2. Don't Claim You Wrote a Blog Post You Didn't Write...

Who are you when ChatGPT isn't writing your articles?

Your audience can smell inauthenticity from a mile away. If you're claiming to be the brain behind a revolutionary blog post but the link leads to a website that's not yours, you're not fooling anyone. Your audience deserves the real deal, not smoke and mirrors.

No one is sticking around for content they can't relate to.

That doesn't mean we aren't going to use tools that help us! Look, I’m a big fan of AI. But you can’t let ChatGPT write your content. You need to learn how to use AI to support your content creation with inspiration. AI is no match for the human touch, so don’t waste your time posting content you didn’t really write.?

3. Your Headlines Can't Be Vague

Let's talk headlines, shall we? A great headline isn't just about announcing your content—it's about sparking curiosity and leaving readers hungry for more. Bad hooks fall flat, but good hooks grab attention, tease the content, and leave readers itching to click and explore. Craft your headlines with care, and you’ll find that those articles will outperform those with vague openings.?

Bad Hook Example: "Check Out My New Blog!"

Good Hook Example: "I Finally Found the Secret to (insert topic)

4. You Can't Forget to SHOW Your True Colors

Your brand isn't just a logo and some snazzy colors. It's the soul of your presence. Don't just tell your audience about your core values; show them through your content. Whether it's a story, a personal anecdote, or a behind-the-scenes glimpse, transparency and authenticity draws in the right leads- your community. Remember, actions speak louder than buzzwords. Plus, silly & weird are totally trending right now... I swear!

Try this:

  • Share a story about a difficult challenge you’re experiencing related or adjacent to your role. Show how you stayed true to -insert value- to overcome. Don’t forget to use these opportunities to ASK your audience for feedback.
  • Share something you do that’s not related to your work to feel inspired. Whether it’s a hobby, volunteer work, or anything that gives your audience a sense of who you are.?

5. You Think You Don't Need to Consult a Social Media Strategist?

Having a strong social media presence is HARD WORK when you don't have experience and nearly impossible to do alone, especially when you're a small business owner already wearing multiple hats. As a freelancer, I get that. Heck, I wish I could hire me sometimes.

A good strategist is able to look at social media platforms and other marketing avenues to lead you in the right direction to bring your brand story to life, generating leads, and giving you the push and support your business needs.

While you may not have a budget to hire a Social Media Manager, consulting with a Social Media Strategist is a MUST!

There you have it, friends! I hope you start implementing these easy, actionable tips into your social media strategy. You'll find that even if you don't gain 1000 followers overnight, you'll start making the right connections along the way.
