Stop Discriminating Organization Culture

This morning while I was browsing thru #LinkedIn posts, I stumbled upon a job posting from a hiring manager of reputed MNC, I was surprised to read this discriminating statement "Only Tier 1 Institutes Candidates Need Apply", I felt so sorry for the said #organization as they feel that #Talent breeds only in the so called Tier 1 institutes.
This reminded me of a incident at my B-School, once a HR Head from an MNC was presenting to us a pre-placement presentation about his Organization and during the same bragging mode he said something very shameful... i.e.
"We believe in Honey Bee Kingdom concept, wherein the leadership positions i.e. Queen Bees are all reserved for Top Notch School Candidates and rest other positions are for you people.... "the slave bees" from other lesser schools"
I stood up and asked him... "Are you amongst queen or slave bees category Sir ?? as expected, he very proudly said I am one of Queen Bee, I said...
"Shame on you... as you have belittled not only your school but also your teachers, I am sure none of them taught you this "crap", it is coming from your ego which will eventually ensure your and your organization's downfall someday"
A year latter, he along with his CEO were kicked out of the same organization for unethical practices and fraud. Today, when I contemplate about the incident, I feel how ruined their organization culture was wherein the leadership team itself is so poor in ethics and maturity, the key requirements for success.
Often Organizations, the #Board, the #CEOs and their leadership team miss no opportunity to advertise and brag about their #Organization #Culture and People Oriented Non-Discriminating Policies may it be age, gender, language, region, caste, faith, color etc. however on the other side their hiring mentality by way of their job postings clearly indicate a contradictory mindset full of "#Biased" and "#Discriminatory" approach to the simplest things, this is what brings us to the subject "Stop Discriminating Organization Culture"!
We have ample evidences in the history that talent does not breed in best of the schools only, but actually in nature, Einstein is the greatest example to simply understand the point.... resource constraints and challenges have always given birth to great professional leaders.
During my association with organizations, I have observed that many a times the best educated managers struggle with a problem, whereas a workmen comes out with a best solution to the same... What matters is your #Attitude not only the degrees you have.
Often, I see organizations advertising employment opportunities especially for female employees and then when the female employees wish to proceed on maternity leave they are looked upon as liabilities, why ?? Why can't we support them as an organization culture which could help them continue with organization with pride ?
In view of disastrous scandals at the best of the organizations like one that we just see at VW is also a byproduct of when there is a yawning gap between what you #preach and what you #practice.
It is sad to notice, that boards are busy believing that profits are more important, whereas performance of an organization is actually determined by the people it has and people make what you call as "Organization Culture". It is sole moral responsibility of Leadership to demonstrate, encourage and protect a non-discriminatory approach at work, because that is what will make or break it.
Casual behavior, approach or statements like the one above only indicate that the organization systems are fast disintegrating and degrading its culture which will eventually lead to moral lapses for short term materialistic gains ultimately leading to its downfall not only negatively impacting the people in the organization, but the society and nation it represents.
#Trust is very delicate, it takes years to make it and a moment to break it. No business or relationship ever survived without "Trust". Trust is strengthened when not only you but all in the team walk the talk and demonstrate it every time without fail as a way of life, not just habit !
I strongly believe that in today's widely and fastly connected world, we have to be doubly sure about, that we are not discriminating, otherwise we may not even have time to regret the damage to the TRUST our customer have in us.

9 年I would like to add one thing , Danel Goleman in his bool Emotional intelligence has stressed that Success is a habit and Top Scorers are in that habit . Also he added that Top Scoring students play a safe bet and they may not go that extra mile to fulfil the void ...

9 年This not only happens in Companies, it also happens in educational institutions. If the students parents are not qualified they cannot get admission, and the reason behind it is there apprehension if the student will get enough support from there parents o not. In this case its about maintaining the schools reputation and status.
