Stop Creating Ads - Start Creating Stories.
"My content is not getting any views."
Yep.? That's the cry of many creators trying to figure out this social media maze.?
But here's a tough truth: If your content looks like an ad, the algorithms won't reward you. Social platforms want social interactions, not sales pitches. These social platforms designed to connect people, keep them there and not bombard them with content that looks like advertisements.
…and guess what?— they're reeeeeally good at spotting the difference.
Here’s the deal: The platforms prefer personal and vulnerable over polished and sales-oriented. Be personal, be helpful, and then? You'll build trust. It’s not just about showcasing what you’ve made; it’s about showing who you are and how you got there. Share your journey, your struggles, and your wins. That's what reels people in and keeps them hooked.
For a deeper dive into this, check out the Song 43 podcast by my friend and fellow creator Laura Davidson . I had an insightful chat with Laura while in Chicago about her pal James and Wet Nose Woodworks. His beautifully crafted content was getting lost in the void until we realized it resembled ads more than stories.?
The advice? Get in front of the camera, share more about the process, and engage with the viewers. People want to connect with other people, not products. So, give them a story worth remembering, and watch your engagement crank up. I'll put the link to the Song 43 Episode below in the comments. Laura's show is great - so, now you have a new podcast to listen to. You're welcome!
Platforms won't bury what feels real and relatable—embrace that. It’s time to step out from behind the scenes of some advertising shoot and let your true, genuine self shine.
