Stop Copying Everyone Else's Content!

This week, I wanted to share a bit of advice.
I've seen so many folks fascinated on here with 'doing what everyone else is doing', that it drives me up the wall.
You want to know what REAL success looks like?
Being DIFFERENT.
We've all been there... drooling over the immense number of views, likes, and conversation going on with the 'big hitters' post, right?
We want to emulate them, do what they do, and share some of the success that they have.
Except that the real 'big hitters' don't work that way.
You can't replicate them, because what makes them successful is just them; Their personality, their way of thinking, their experience.
So how can you make sure that you stand out from the crowd?
Stop thinking like 'the crowd'. Don't do things because everyone else does.
An example - a couple of years back on LinkedIn, everyone was using the 5 dots approach to get you to 'click to see more' on their post. You know, it went like this:
<HOOK LINE>
.
.
.
.
.
<Clickbait>
And I refused to adopt it, even though it would have undoubtedly drawn me more engagement as a result.

I started using it about 6 months later, but didn't use clickbait... instead I added useful insights and if necessary rowed back my inflammatory hook line in a way that engaged the reader further.
The result? People commenting to me that they loved my content because I DIDN'T use the 5 dots at first... I was different to everyone else.
When I DID start using it? People were expecting clickbait and got value. So again, it worked, and I attracted loads of compliments.
This has been the basis of everything I do with LinkedIn specifically - you've GOT to pattern interrupt people on here.
We get so used to the same old drivel, very, very quickly.
So the next time you see something truly unique, take what they've done, but make it your own. Don't just copy their style, technique, or method.
People ask me why I'm so adverse to traditional marketing... the answer is because I've no traditional marketing background. Hell, not even a traditional sales background.
Instead, focus on being human. People don't think logically. They think emotionally. They want to KNOW, LIKE, and TRUST you. You have to give them reason to do so... and that will never be through blending in with everyone else.
So my challenge to you for this week, dear reader, is simple. Do something with your profile, your messaging, your posts... that SCARES you.
If it works? Amazing.
If it doesn't? Learn, and do something else.
But please, whatever you do? Don't sit still.
Stand out from the crowd.
If you found value in this article, all I'd ask is that you share it via email, your own feed, or at the very least, comment and tag 2x other folks who you think would benefit from reading it.
Lastly? If you?DON'T?want to try the above, or don't have the?TIME?to do so, the Resources to do it, or just want it off your plate?
Drop me a line ;-)
Website:?I don't have one. Why? Because Content Marketing > Traditional thinking. Linktree does what we need.
Are you starting to see the power of content now?

1 年And in my humble view, writing an article talking about content is itself not very interesting, or indeed original. In this social media obsessed world, I come across way too many articles that does exactly that. Sorry Paul, but it's the truth. My pet hate is why most comments in posts are bland and serve no purpose.
Love it!
