Stop The Busy...
Hi.
It seems like just last week (it was [smile]) when I announced:
This weekly LinkedIn Newsletter?examines the ideas around,"Focus.?#deliver " and contains information that will?help you?actually increase your productivity by doing less.
You'll receive actionable tips based on real world outcomes learned as I facilitate?training ,?consulting , and?mentoring ?our clients around the world.
A Bit More Context for You
My current plan is to release an "actionable tip" each Thursday to help my subscribers -- that would be YOU -- finish the workweek on a strong note by tomorrow at Jimmy Buffett time (assuming your workweek ends on Friday at 5:00 somewhere).
The good news is you and a few of my friends here subscribed.
The good-er news is you are reading this edition.
So now the pressure is [ ON ] for me to give you ONE actionable tip right now.
[gulp] Here goes.
The Problem: You are Busy
Let's pretend you and I are starting a conversation.
ME: "Hey, how are you?"
YOU: "I am SO busy [with impressive sounding blah blah blah deleted here to stop you from eye-rolling me]."

2 年Same as others said, but as a question: what is important right now? When we think about the Eisenhower matrix (important & urgent), busy means that we have too much things in quadrant 1 (important and urgent activities). If we can't delegate, we have to raise the bar of what is important right now. Or we can negotiate what is really urgent to postponed some of them. Because if we don't, it will get worse. We will even add quadrant 3 (urgent but non-important tasks) activities to the mix.

2 年Give yourself permission to not get everything done. As long as you have consistently focused on the most important things, and not just the most urgent things, then you have created the most impact that you can. What is the most important? That is something that only you can determine. For me, I have to ask "If it doesn't get done at all, what will be the impact a year from now, five years from now, ten years from now?" For many things the answer is "Nothing." Those things are unimportant, even if they are urgent, i.e., someone wants them done right now.

2 年Busy is relative. If you are at work you are probably busy doing work… I try to define what makes me feel “busy”, if it is things I accomplished then it was a good “busy”. If “busy” is all the things that I haven’t done or are making me anxious then I have tomorrow’s to do list. Keep moving things to the done column.

2 年Time Box and ruthlessly cut out things that can be delegated to someone else. You'd be amazed how much time you can free up when you force yourself to stick to time boxes.
Hi, Michael! I was telling my friend Casey Hart and his daughter about you & your work. Perhaps you will have a chance to connect!
