Do you know that 61% of smartphone users change their phones every 1–2 years?
And, looking at the current market, I am sure that these people at least spend 10–20k on their smartphones.
This 20k every year jots down to 10k per year.
But for what?
I do not think smartphone companies bring significant changes to their devices with every release. Most of the time, you cannot even differentiate between the changes.
Am I right?
Let me clarify it further by mentioning some tricks that smartphone companies use to trick a general user.
Trick 1: The Best Device Till Now
If you have watched any of Apple’s events, you would have heard, “This is the best device from us till now.” Technically, it is true because there can be 0.01% improvements from the last device. But if you use a 5-year-old iPhone today, you can do nearly all your day-to-day activities without any issues.

Trick 2: 500 MP of Camera
Do not get tricked by the numbers on the camera. A 200 MP camera might not be as good as a 12 MP old camera. You can see it, especially on Chinese devices. They boast numbers and trick users into selling their devices.
Trick 3: Update Policy
MKBHD once said not to buy a device which promises years of update. Compare the specs according to today. If it does not come with the latest android update and promises that you will get updates in future, stay away from these devices. Motorola for example, is so bad at updating. Currently Apple, Samsung and Google are the ones on whom you can rely on for future updates.
So, these were 3 tricks that you have to ignore or do proper research on while buying a new device. Let me help you a bit: If you spend 15 to 20k on a smartphone, you are good to go for at least 3 coming years without any issues.
