Stop of asking for the next slide... please...

Stop of asking for the next slide... please...

This scenario probably sounds all too familiar to you; someone on your Microsoft Teams meeting is presenting PowerPoint slides straight from their desktop (or maybe, just their PowerPoint window), but you have multiple speakers on the call and instead of advancing the slides themselves they ask to move to the "next slide please". Not only is this a hassle for the person that is sharing their screen, it also destroys the flow of many presentations.

But did you know there is an easy fix for this and that it can be done in just one simple step (plus a bonus step for optional options)?

Open the share tray and share the PowerPoint.

In Microsoft Teams there are three options to share your PowerPoint slides:

  1. Share your desktop: this will share your full desktop/screen. Participants will see everything that is happening on your screen.
  2. Share your window: this will only share the window you select. In the screenshot below, if I'd select Edge, the participants will only see my Edge window regardless of which other screens or apps are open on my desktop.
  3. PowerPoint: And this is where the magic happens. When you share directly from PowerPoint, the online version of your PowerPoint deck will open. If your deck is not available yet in the cloud, Teams will do that for you. Not only will you be able to let others advance the slides as they present (through a 'take control' button), it will also save you up to 90% of bandwidth during the meeting!

Optional: Control who can present through meeting options

If you want to control who can present on the meeting, you can easily set this on the Meeting Options screen or in the Participants pane during the meeting. You can access the Meeting Options through the calendar invite in Teams. Once you're in the Meeting Options you can choose to either let anyone present, only people from your org, or you can select certain people that are invited to the meeting. Use this when you want to avoid people taking control of the presentation.

Good article, simple solution for a simple issue. Some people don't care about or understand the basics of delivering a presentation, asking for Next Slide is really old school, not to mention the fact that most of the time things goes wrong 'No not that one, one back please, yes, this is the one ;-) I used to see that happen a lot of times on physical events too. I have a tip too: PRESENTER VIEW, really useful ;-)

Slimme tip, dank je wel! Ik heb nog wel een vraag: als ik het scherm deel, zie ik alleen het beeld van degene die praat linksboven. Hoe kan ik nu zien welke mensen een handje hebben opgestoken om iets te zeggen?

Awesome. Another great way is to just switch presenter. Let each presenter share their own screen consecutively, empowering them to be in full charge of their story, with presenter notes. And the ability to rapidly switch to other apps for demos and the like.

Problem with uploading PowerPoint: no speaker notes.
