Stoners, BreathWork, and Goal Planning

Welcome, let's dive right in... shall we?

What do Runners and Stoners have in Common?

Have you ever heard of “runners high” or “lifters high”? These are popular terms used to describe a feeling of euphoria typically associated with post-workout vibes. If you have, you may know that dopamine and serotonin are associated with that “high feeling”. Well, turns out those aren't the only "happy chemicals" that hit your brain.

Explanation of "Runners High"

What if I told you that your body naturally produces the chemicals found in marijuana (cannabinoids) post-exercise?

Here’s the TLDR.?

  1. Your body has a natural “Endocannabinoid” system
  2. The cannabinoid receptors are where THC (marijuana) and your biological cannabinoids connect.
  3. This system is heavily involved in regulating our stress response
  4. Intense exercises activate this system, release cannabinoids, and lower stress.
  5. Exercise = Getting High

In humans, acute exercise causes significant increases in peripheral levels of endogenous opioids and endocannabinoids; this effect is intensity-dependent, corresponds to acute exercise-induced changes in HPA axis hormones, and is linked to improvements in mood [235–239].

Want to start Breathwork, but don't know how?

Our breath responds to the energy needs of our bodies - via our nervous system - every moment of our lives.? By measuring the time of our exhale, we can gain insight into how the deepest parts of our body cope with stress.??

Breathwork has been a life-changing addition to my life. It started with the awareness that many of us stop breathing while scrolling on our phones. It’s a phenomenon called “Screen Apnea” and it causes your nervous system to feel like it’s being choked out - making you more edgy and stressed.

Every protocol, from Wim-Hof to Holotropic Breathing was absolutely instrumental in my journey, especially when mixed with guided meditation.

If you click the link below, the exercise can help you understand where you’re at, and give you a foundation of breathwork protocols to start strengthening your awareness of your breath.

Breathwork had done absolute wonders for me mentally and physically, and I hope it will do the same for you.

Here's the Breathwork Test and Protocol ??

Meet Some Indes with a Groove-y Goal-Setting Party

Recently I celebrated my mental “5yr Anniversary” of pursuing entrepreneurship.

Over the past five years, I’ve done a lot. From leaving the Air National Guard to transitioning out of ICU Nursing and founding a marketing company. To now serving as the Head of Community for a global community of extremely talented individuals called IndeCollective.

If there’s one thing that I’ve learned in that time, it’s that having a community of peers who understand my vision and accept me for who I am (my friend JoAnna Datz and I call it “speaking each other's heart language”) has been the most critical component of my growth journey.

They push me when needed, and give me space to be vulnerable when I can’t push any harder. I would not be where I am today without the communities I’m about to mention :)

I’m so excited to be able to bring together two of my favorites ( IndeCollective and Groove ) under the same virtual roof later this month!

Taylor Harrington ?? , Groove’s Head of Community, will be joining me and the IndeCollective crew to facilitate an hour-long reflection, goal-setting, and networking event.

This event is open to all IndeCollective Alumni, Groovers, and all of you reading this newsletter right now ??!

If you’d like to spend an hour hanging out with us, and spend some time meeting amazing people, DM me so I can add you to the invite for the event :)

Thanks for reading this week's issue of 3 Things I Learned This Week. It’s really a pleasure to have so many of you here with me. We're almost 400-strong! I appreciate every one of you, especially the people that are DMing me cool articles and teaching me things!?
