Stoned Out Of Their Tree - OSC, Government and Those Screaming In Their Ears

Stoned Out Of Their Tree - OSC, Government and Those Screaming In Their Ears

If the Government wants to know why the OSC continues to fail, perhaps they should finally really listen to the experts. You know, the ones who have been screaming in their ears for over four decades about doing the right thing. The humane thing. As one would expect in Canada, our Supreme Court actually listened to the one's screaming and said:

“Hey, you guys are right. Is the Government stoned out of its tree here because they are totally infringing on your rights? You should have access to medicine in your community. In fact, ladies and dudes, this goes all the way back to the Morgentaler decision but we will leave that for another debate. You are right. You win. In fact, we have said this, like, at least five times.”

Did the Government listen to the people screaming in their ears? NO. Did they listen to the wise people THEY appointed to the highest court in Canada? NO. They shouldn't feel bad, each successive government at every level since them has done the same thing. Including the current Government.

OSC stores are failing because they, and the Government, has always refused to listen to those constant voices in their ear. Instead, they treat it as an annoying fly, swatting at it every chance they get. But those voices haven’t gone away and they never will. They are still there, screaming in those ears, crying out to finally really be heard by them on this matter for the first time. Who is doing the screaming? PATIENTS.

They are screaming for the Government and the OSC to just listen to them. After all, we are the experts. You know, we have been the ones running our own system for those, oh, forty-plus years you ignored us. We served ourselves and will continue to do so until you acknowledge and listen.

Patients don’t just know cannabis, they understand it like it is a part of them because, in a way, it is. It doesn’t come down to patients getting high. First off, the most popular cannabis medical treatments don’t get patients high or stoned. They just make the patient feel better. Second, if that were true, why does NO ONE bring it up with opiates, which kill thousands of Canadians a year and this number is increasing almost as rapidly as our COVID numbers are.

It’s time for someone to listen to the real experts in the room. The ones who have learned from years of a loving (and ‘dangerous risk-taking’) involvement with an underground culture whose only desire has been to provide quality medicine to patients, in their community, at a reasonable (and tax-free) cost. Any other time, the Government and OSC would be screaming out for expert help. Except now. So, I call on all medical cannabis patients and recreational users everywhere to come out of the closet and stand proud. Speak up and be heard. I am not a user. I'm a smoker. I'm a midnight toker. I sure don't want to hurt no one. Patients just want to be heard and recognized for the experience they have gained as a result of their illness, not dismissed because of it.

It’s a universal problem with cannabis being regulated by out of touch government officials who care more about money than the people they govern.
