Stolen 2022 BMW Recovered 1200 Miles from Minnetonka, MN with New Law Enforcement App
On March 12th, 2024, the manager of a Minnetonka dealership discovered a 2022 BMW M760i, valued at $105,000, had been stolen from the lot overnight. The theft was reported to the Minnetonka Police Department and the vehicle’s VIN entered stolen in the National Crime Information Computer (NCIC).?
With the precise location provided by the LoJack GPS system, dealership management determined the vehicle was in New Jersey, almost 1200 miles from where it had been stolen. The dealership manager reported the theft with the LoJack SVR hotline, and the BMW was added to LoJack LE, our new law enforcement application for live tracking of stolen vehicles.?
Utilizing the newly installed LoJack LE, a detective with the New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force began monitoring the vehicle in real time. Just before reaching the vehicle's location, the driver left the area, heading towards George Washington Bridge. As the vehicle crossed into the Bronx from New Jersey, auto theft detectives from the New York State Police were promptly notified. Leveraging the LoJack LE, New York State Police detectives swiftly pinpointed and recovered the unoccupied BMW.?
The stolen BMW was impounded for safekeeping until it can be returned to the dealership. The investigation remains active, with detectives in Minnetonka identifying four suspects in the case, all residing in the Bronx.?
