Stoic Strength and Character

Stoicism offers considerable value in walking through times of trial ... and triumph ... alike. Our Principles matter, but especially in action. It was Marcus Aurelius who said, “Waste no more time arguing what a good man should be. Be one.” But being one requires exploring the walking of Character Leadership... in the steps we take throughout our Day. It is a work in progress, indeed and in deed.

I am an Educator, Speaker, Coach, Writer, and Creator ... studying, practicing and advancing Character Leadership and Education ... to move forward together, stronger ... engaging change and challenge with genuine Confidence. That said, maybe even check into this Stoic L.O.V.E. Letter from July of 2023. Character is not simply about being "good" nor "strong". It is the enduring and optimistic ... the appropriate, timely and responsive ... practice of the myriad and meaningful faces, facets and forms of same... called Virtues. Every situation in Life can be met with one or more, in practice. With that noted, I leave you now with these words of Epictetus.

• “Every difficulty in life presents us with an opportunity to turn inward and to invoke our own inner resources. The trails we endure can and should introduce us to our strengths. Prudent people look beyond the incident itself and seek to form the habit of putting it to good use. On the occasion of an accidental event, don’t just react in a haphazard fashion: remember to turn inward and ask what resources you have for dealing with it. Dig deeply. You possess strengths you might not realize you have. Find the right one. Use it.”

Virtues are our inner Strengths of Character... and Baha’u’llah is said to have often remarked:

There are four qualities which I love to see manifested in people: first, Enthusiasm and Courage; second, a face wreathed in smiles and a radiant countenance; third, that they see with their own eyes and not through the eyes of others; fourth, the ability to carry a task once begun, through to its end.

In all of this, we find Character. It is foundational... and in these Days of change and challenge... it is ever more needed.
