A Stipend and Skill Training Can Transform Lives.
Casper Baloyi, a resident of Phagameng in Modimolle, joined the SEF (Social Employment Fund) Phase 2 Project in October 2023. As a participant, he received a stipend, attended training sessions, and participated in awareness and campaign workshops that equipped him with valuable skills.?
The SEF program imparted essential knowledge and skills that he has been able to bring back to his family. Casper's grandfather used to grow crops, and with the training Casper received in agricultural techniques like pest control, he was able to apply it on his grandfather's field, which boosted their crop yields. This improvement in production reduced their reliance on buying vegetables from local vendors and supermarkets, not only improved their food security but also diversified their diet. ? Moreover, the family is now able to save money and redirect it toward other essential needs. He transitioned in July 2024 and joined Kwhatsi Security services. Casper acknowledges that the SEF program has personally transformed him and believes that the improved meals and financial stability have positively impacted his entire family. With their increased income, he was able to purchase furniture for their home, further improving the family’s living conditions.?
In addition to these benefits, Casper also used some of his savings to obtain a firearm certificate, as a requirement for security job, which he will be receiving soon. This demonstrates how the SEF programs support allowed him to achieve personal milestones. The training, stipend, and skills acquired through the SEF program have equipped Casper to navigate his work life and farming activities more effectively, improving both his individual situation and his family.?
