We've all heard of the old "compliment sandwich" method of delivering criticism. But if you've ever had it used on you, you know that it's deeply flawed.

"Hey Susan, you're a very hard worker and I like that sweater on you..."

Can you hear that "but" coming? Are you already cringing in wait of that other shoe to drop?

In this article, I lay out a new technique of my own devising: the GEMS method of transforming tough conversations into veritable love-fests.
