"There are still many good young people in the world."
Letter from a resident of Henderson, TX

"There are still many good young people in the world."

This is Jarred Shaffer, a student at Brookhaven College by way of Blum, TX, and member of the Bears basketball team. Although I could share some of his impressive statistics on the court or in the classroom, it's a letter I received recently from a stranger for whom Jarred made all the difference, which I have excerpted here. Wearing the Brookhaven name across his chest makes him immediately identifiable as a representative of our college and our core values: learning, service, diversity, excellence and integrity. There may come a day when I forget how many three-pointers Jarred once made in a row or the clutch free throws he sank to preserve a Bears win, but I doubt that I will ever forget the content of his character that he showed when he probably thought no one was looking--not to mention the lesson we can all draw from it. If in the story our own life we are not the main character, we have probably lived a very good life.

Nice post. Good to see such an act of kindness. Nice representation of Brookhaven College.

Brookhaven's leadership is fostering excellence in teaching and learning, and the evidence shows in your graduates! The value for the human element and desire to inspire passion and success that is evident in this post speaks volumes of Brookhaven's vision and mission.

Great inspiring and uplifting post. This kind of chivalry is a lost trait in todays' society for the most part.
