Loads, and I mean really - loads, of sites are still running on Magento 1. It is now officially end of life as I'm sure you are all very aware of. Recently a high profile and wide ranging hack effort saw a significant number of these sites hacked.
Many site owners will now be well on with plans to move to Magento 2 or other platforms. Some site owners will be sitting tight on M1 for the time being due to various constraints such as budgetary or technical reasons which are forcing them to stay on M1.
If you are running a live website on Magento 1 for any reason, even if you are quite well on with moving to another platform, I really encourage you to now move your core platform onto OpenMage.
There are a few platforms and options out there in terms of continuing support for Magento but from our point of view there is one clear winner which is OpenMage. They have now gained a proven track record of releasing timely updates to mitigate security issues and continue to work on improving the core codebase of Magento 1.
Depending on the state of your Magento code, the task of migrating can range from really quite trivial and upwards - really depending on how clean your core Magento files are.
Once you have made the migration, you can now update your site code with the latest security patches, bug fixes and other improvements from OpenMage.
If you want to see the changes that have been release by OpenMage, have a look at this this file
The platform is being operated in an open source way, using Github to manage the code.
If you want to stay on Magento 1 for your own reasons, then this is the route we suggest to our clients and to you.
If this is something you would like help with or would like to discuss in more detail, just drop me a note!
Cheers
