STFC apprentices shine at 2023 annual awards??

At the Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), we have been celebrating the fantastic work of our apprentices with the 2023 apprenticeship awards.???

Two award ceremonies have taken place to ensure that all our 200 apprentices from across four sites could be recognised. The first ceremony was for apprentices from the UK Astronomy Technology Centre and Daresbury Laboratory and the second for Boulby Laboratory and Rutherford Appleton Laboratory.???

STFC’s apprenticeships cover a wide range of areas including engineering, computing and IT, laboratory technicians, business administration and project management.???

Celebrate and share???

The awards are a chance to recognise winners who have been nominated by their colleagues, managers and peers. But they are also a chance for our apprentices to share their own experiences and learnings.???

Apprentices from Rutherford Appleton Laboratory and Boulby Laboratory celebrate at STFC's 2023 apprenticeship awards

?Michelle Smith, Senior Apprenticeship Coordinator at STFC, is jubilant about the apprentice’s successes:

?

Ensuring STEM skills for the future??

The STFC apprenticeship scheme is one branch of our early careers offer which gives quality training and employment, while at the same time addressing the shortage of STEM skills across the UK.?

Apprentices in technical roles, such as engineering and mechanical technicians, work on national and international science and technology projects from the start of their training. Those in other roles, are also working on supporting the science and technology work. Every one of our apprentices has a place to play in the success of big science projects.??

The scheme itself is also an award winner, having held the Investors in People ‘we invest in apprentices’ gold accreditation since 2021.??

?

Could you be an STFC apprentice???

The STFC career portal contains lots of information about apprenticeship opportunities and how to apply. Visit the STFC career portal here and start planning your apprenticeship journey.??
