Stewardship & the Perfection of reason.

In the book of Genesis, a quarrel ensues between God and Cain about the whereabouts of Abel. A dark moment when Cain was voicing his intention to redesign a sublime home into a nightmarish place ruled by darkness, creating a rift in a once harmonious nature.

In the beginning, a cardinal responsibility was spelled out to the man and handed to us. We are to care for the?treasures bequeathed?to us. We fulfill the?promise?when parents provide for their children, securing body needs and the often hushed?immortal virtues, a cycle that progresses through generations when children pattern the taught values and possess a natural and holistic?caretaker mentality?that forms society.

We do things for our children to make them happy, but sometimes some are detrimental to their life in the long run. Rather than aiming for the easy road that sometimes leads to hedonism, they need to develop character and true worth, an uncomfortable process. But life is sour and sweet, throwing the oranges and lemons to us all the time, the good and bad of a beautiful comedy. Finding and resorting to instant gratification creates a fleeting mirage of pleasure that leads to misery. We can prepare them to face the difficulties ahead by instilling the shield that will carry them through life's winters. We can expose them to experiences and passions that will make them aspire for more in life. Pursuing the higher road and doing good voluntarily rather than waiting for circumstances to force us is a mark of?moral excellence. It's humility to learn from experiences and share the lessons that outlive us. If a child learning the?ancient knowledge?will be able to in-form self, should I not be a star, so bright to direct the course of those still on their way and help them avoid unnecessary pitfalls?

The elders should leave a trail for those coming after by synthesizing their experience and handing over a complete button. We are schools that impart discipline and diligence. We can equip children on how life will be, enabling them to face their fears and obstacles in life and prevail. Encouraging that desirability is an obligation that stems outwardly.

Pursuing values is our contest to withstand the?forces?that attempt to destroy who we are and limit our infinite potential, that spark of divinity residing within us. It's a worthy call that helps transcend suffering and destruction and protect treasures for generations. It will prevent the downhill spiral of events with resistance since you'll be in a position of order to manifest the potential of playing music from a piano. Discipline adopts responsibility that develops focus and keeps one moving forward. The world is a function. In Africa, we say it takes a village to raise a child. Our actions influence our world. We can all rise to the occasion and consciously plant good seeds for good harvesting. If you think you're too small to make a difference, you haven't spent the night with a mosquito. Kind and generous deeds have no degree and always count.?Nurturing values?makes the edifices of life stand even as we flicker like a candle in the wind.?

Be dare-devil stewards, bursting forth with?eternal truths. It's a commitment to ourselves, our children, and our neighbors.

It is not enough merely to exist. It's not enough to say, 'I'm earning enough to support my family. I do my work well. I'm a good father, husband, and churchgoer.' That's all very well. But do something more. Seek always to do some good, somewhere. Every man has to seek in his way to realize his true worth. You must give some time to your fellow man. Even if it's a little thing, do something for those who need help, something for which you get no pay but the privilege of doing it. Remember, you don't live in a world all your own. Your brothers are here too. -?Albert Schweitzer
