Stewarding the Fathers heart with integrity
The prophetic is a gift, a privilege, and a responsibility. In a world where many voices claim to speak for God, accountability is not an option—it is a necessity. Without it, prophetic ministry can drift into error, pride, or manipulation. But when handled rightly, prophecy strengthens the church, encourages believers, and aligns people with God’s heart. As Clem Ferris says, "The prophetic was never meant to operate in isolation; it was meant to function within the body, sharpened by accountability and tested by Scripture."
The prophetic carries weight. It shapes nations, guides churches, and directs lives. A word spoken under God’s authority must be treated with reverence, tested with discernment, and stewarded with humility. Paul’s instruction in 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21 is clear: "Do not quench the Spirit. Do not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good." Prophetic accountability is not about skepticism; it is about ensuring that what is spoken truly reflects God’s voice.
Prophecy is never meant to elevate the prophet. The moment someone believes they are beyond testing or correction, they step into dangerous territory. Even Agabus, a recognized prophet in the New Testament, did not demand authority over Paul’s actions when he prophesied his imprisonment (Acts 21:10-11). He delivered the word and trusted God with the outcome. That is the posture of a mature prophetic voice—one that submits to the authority of Scripture, the wisdom of leadership, and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Unchecked prophecy can lead to pride, and pride leads to destruction. Words spoken in the name of God should never serve personal agendas or stir fear and confusion. True prophecy carries the nature of Christ—truth wrapped in grace, clarity without control. A word that produces manipulation or division is not from God. The fruit of prophecy must be tested. Does it align with Scripture? Does it bring peace, even when it is a warning? Does it glorify Christ? Jesus said in Matthew 7:16, "By their fruit you will recognize them." The fruit of prophecy should lead people toward God, not into chaos.

Prophetic voices must be willing to submit words to trusted leaders, receive correction, and acknowledge mistakes. The willingness to be tested is a mark of integrity, not weakness. The prophetic does not operate in isolation; it thrives in community, where words are weighed, refined, and confirmed. Those who resist accountability risk misleading themselves and others.
A prophetic word that is truly from God does not need force to be fulfilled. It does not need manipulation to come to pass. If it is from the Lord, it will bear fruit in His timing and His way. The call to every prophetic voice is clear: be faithful, be humble, and be accountable. Prophecy is a gift from God, not a tool for control. It belongs to the church, not the individual. The goal is not to impress but to steward well. As we embrace accountability, we ensure that the prophetic remains what it was always meant to be—a means of revealing God’s heart to His people.
Let us continue to submit ourselves humbly and see His hand at work.
