Steve Jobs and Elon Musk are both legendary figures in the world of business and technology. They are known for their innovative ideas, groundbreaking products, and relentless drive to change the world.
While there are certainly similarities between the two, there are also several key differences in the way they approached their work.
Here are five things that Jobs and Musk did differently:
Elon Musk, on the other hand, is focused on solving big problems facing humanity, such as climate change and space exploration, through the development of cutting-edge technology.
2. Leadership Style: Jobs was known for his intense and demanding leadership style, which could be both inspiring and intimidating. He was known to be a perfectionist and would push his team to deliver products that met his high standards.
Musk, on the other hand, is known for being a hands-on leader who is heavily involved in the day-to-day operations of his companies. He is also known for being more approachable and collaborative with his team members.

3. Risk Tolerance: Steve Jobs was a risk-taker, but he was also known for being very calculated in his approach. He would often wait until the technology was mature before introducing it to the market, and he was careful to avoid taking on too much debt or other financial risks.
Elon Musk, on the other hand, is known for being more willing to take big risks and make bold moves. He has frequently taken on massive amounts of debt to fund his ambitious projects, and he is willing to pivot his companies in new directions when necessary
4. Company Building: Jobs was known for building Apple into a highly profitable and highly secretive company that tightly controlled every aspect of its products, from hardware to software to content.
Musk, on the other hand, has taken a more collaborative approach to company building. He has encouraged open-source development and has been willing to partner with other companies to achieve his goals.
5. Vision: Finally, Steve Jobs and Elon Musk had different visions for the future. Jobs was focused on making technology more accessible and user-friendly, while
Musk is focused on solving big problems and advancing human civilization. Both are incredibly ambitious visions, but they represent different approaches to the role of technology in our lives.

1 年Anand Munshi thanks for having posted your perspective on this. All of a sudden I was thinking of the differences in the management and leadership style of these two personalities...given that they are from the similar domain of technology and are rooted in innovation. I was under the impression that Elon Musk is less employee oriented than Steve Jobs because of: 1) his treatment of employees at Twitter after he took over 2) it is heard that he is known to sustain the benchmark of innovation at his organisations by making it mandatory for everyone to deliver something on innovation as a time table in a routine manner Request to please share your POV on this.

1 年Anand Munshi, wonderfully captured! Good research and nicely presented. Also, would love to read more about other less-known aspects of their life like their Presence in the Family, Friends Circle, Social contribution, Political preferences, Spiritual views, etc.
