Below is such a powerful excerpt from his speech I needed to share it. Steve Jobs had the ability to think now to pave his road to what the future held for him. We need to live more like this. Read below.
After Steve Jobs dropped out of Stanford he attended Reed College where he was now able to take the classes he was interested in. No dorm room. Bought food with coke bottle redemption. Walked 7 miles every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple. He stumbled into Calligraphy instruction class. At Reed he ended up taking a calligraphy class of which Reed was known for having the best Calligraphy program in the country. Here is where Steve learned the art of different fonts, varying the spaces between different letter combinations and what makes GREAT typography GREAT! It was beautiful and subtle in a way science couldn’t capture. None of this would impact him at that time. But 10 years later when he was designing the MAC with Wozniak it came together. The MAC would have never had beautiful type faces and proportionally typed fonts. And since windows copied the MAC it’s possible that NO personal computer would have them! The crowd went nuts.
“You cannot connect the dots going forward only backward. So you have to trust the somehow the dots are going to connect in your future. You have to trust in something. Your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever because believing that the dots will connect down the road will give you the confidence to follow your heart even if it leads you off the well-worn path. That will make all the difference.”

9 年Incredibly he did have powerful foresight as well and could connect dots to the things people would want as well. Thanks for sharing a great article!
