The Indian government has issued a revised #tariffpolicy under the Electricity Act, 2003. As per the policy, any company that establishes a coal or lignite-based thermal generating station and begins commercial operations on or after 1st April 2023, must establish #renewableenergy generating capacity equal to a minimum of 40% of the thermal station’s capacity or procure and supply equivalent renewable energy. For any other thermal generating stations starting commercial operations after 1st April 2025, compliance with RGO of 40% is mandatory from the start of commercial operations.

Sterlite Power , a leading power #transmission company in India and Brazil, announced the successful commissioning of its #greenenergy corridor project – Lakadia-Vadodara Transmission Project Limited (LVTPL). The project aims to deliver more than 5000 MW of power from #renewable rich regions of Bhuj and Kutch to the national grid – a step towards accelerating India’s transition towards a greener economy.Additionally, it forms a critical part of the world’s largest 30,000 MW Hybrid #renewableenergy park coming up in Kutch.

Furthering its commitment to reduce its #carbonfootprint, Jindal Stainless plans to install two rooftop solar plants of 21 Megawatt Peak (MWp) capacity and 6 MWp capacity at its Jajpur and Hisar units respectively. The roofs of various shop floors at both units have been identified to install these #rooftopsolar plants, with an overall investment of more than INR 120 crores. Both projects are scheduled to be completed by March 2024.

India’s coal-fired power plants are being encouraged to become more flexible in order to meet new load demands as the country faces delays in the addition of 175GW #renewableenergy sources due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Hon’ble Minister of Power recently launched a report that recommends conducting low load tests on thermal generating units and tuning them effectively to meet new load demands. It also emphasizes the need for #thermal generating units to be flexible enough to support the integration of more renewables into the #powergrid.

An 18-km-long #solar fence has been erected along the India-Bhutan border to mitigate human-elephant conflict and protect over 10,000 people residing in 11 villages in Assam’s Baksa district, reports PTI.The solar fence was erected by bio-diversity organization ‘Aranyak’ with funding from the Elephant Foundation of India in February 2021. Villagers were also involved in the project and made financial contributions by constructing concrete posts to ensure the longevity of the fence.
