Steps To Write A Copy That Converts By 80%.

During my days as an NYSC Corper, a company that sells detergent came to the school I taught to advertise their product to students.

“Will it wash well?” and many more questions kept them from buying because they had not heard of the brand company before or even trust the product.

They simply didn’t want to entrust their money in something they know nothing about.

As a marketer who knows how to handle human behaviour when it comes to selling, I offered to help out when I noticed that the company representatives frowned at how things turned out.

I had to present a relatable feeling since they were Secondary School students.

I made them like the detergent by emphasizing how it’s beautiful colour will make their fading uniforms look shiny as though they just bought them.

I made them understand that the fragrance from the detergent will make them smell so nice at school that they will no longer be embarrassed by teachers for body odour.

I also made it clear that it would be the only detergent that will help them remove strong stains without washing rigorously till they peel off the skin on their fingers, so they can have the strength to write notes at school.

Finally, I ended my message with a brand song they wouldn’t forget. I made them recite that song till school hours were over.

Do you know how many students bought that detergent?

95% of them did.

I didn’t just talk about the product itself. I built an experience around it.

Now, if you were to put my sales words on paper, it will be Copywriting.

Many experts have given different definitions of what Copywriting is all about, but I’ll just say it’s the ability to be a salesman in print by emphasizing on benefits over features.

Why is so much emphasis laid on Copywriting?

Marketing is incomplete without Copywriting. In as much as you are aware that you can't reach your target audience physically, there is need for a means of communicating these offers to them, in order to sell your products.

Copywriting bridges the gap between the product and the consumer.

How do you write the kind of copy that will convert and even close your sales like crazy.

?? An Attractive Headline?

Let’s be a little bit practical.

“How to make money for yourself with Affiliate Marketing.”

Vs

“How I made $3,000 within 14 days using this exact strategy.

The one that attracts your attention, sparks your curiosity, creates suspense and makes you want to read through is the perfect headline.”


?? Hook?

As Content Writers will say, if the first 2 paragraphs of your content does not keep your readers glued, then forget it.

A hook is an introductory statement that clarifies or justifies your headline.

It is called a hook because it is meant to trap your reader to see the offer you have.

A hook could also be a sub-headline.

For example:

Title: Affiliate Marketing is a scam!!
Hook: Read this or else you’ll lose.

Affiliate Marketing is not a scam. The title here only created curiosity. It is called the “Reverse Method Approach”.


?? Body?

They first part of the content of your copy should highlight and affirm the problems of your audience, hence the need for market research.

This is a great way to handle objections.

Once you let them know their problems and present it in an understandable and relatable way, you make them feel important and seem like a saviour who is about to pull them out of such challenges.

The next part is how your product serves as the ultimate solution they need and how this solution will positively affect other areas of their life.


?? Bandwagon Effect?

Have you seen things like:?

50 persons have registered, what’s holding you back from grabbing this opportunity

Or?

4,000 persons can’t be wrong.


This is more Psychological than just pen on paper. Some people especially Nigerians don’t want to be the first person to jump on that offer.

They want to but when others have started buying. They just want to join the moving train and this is exactly how to get them to do so.



?? Clear CTA

Ensure you use only one Call To Action that simply tells them the next thing to do or how to get started.

When you use these steps, you will convert 80% of your audiences to buyers.
