A student ask me a question about building a career while in college on the Career Advice Pub, and I thought that I would share the answer with my friends on LinkedIn. Building a career is one of the most challenging things that we face on our lives. Some of us think just because we went into the service or graduate from college that we are destined for a successful career. The is furthest from the truth. I have been blessed with some very talented, and great mentors over the years who have blessed with much guidance. One of my professors use to tell me to go home and take what you've learned in class Kenneth and implement it into your business. Share it with a client. Learn to take the class work, and put it to work for you in the real world. I truly believe that we fall short with this key ingredient to success. College gave me the blueprint, but I had to put in the work. I tell my daughter this all the time. When you invest in yourself others will not have a problem with investing in you. Your talents, gifts, and integrity will rise you to the top. Someone is always watching, and looking for ambition new talent. Share your dreams, and vision with others. Become willing to allow others to mentor you, and always be willing to learn for those who have gone before you. If you could get into a good intern program with a business that is will to not just train you, but willing to show you the business ropes(ends and outs). Over the years I have had many people come along side of me, and have taught me some valuable things about life, business, and personal investment. I want to encourage you to continue searching, and asking questions. If I can give you one last bite of advice is to believe what God is doing in your life. You are a king/queen, and God had great things in store for your life. The honest truth is your are great right now. You don't have to wait until you are where you think or would like to be. Greatness or success is now with whatever you are doing. Remember that life is a journey, and any time you make it about reaching a particular destination you will stop growing, striving, discovering, and exploring. Some of discover more than one career in a life time, but it all begins with determination to leave the shore of where you are today. I am 51 years old, and believing that I am in a season of a makeover. What does this mean for me? I am about to begin a new chapter in my life entering into a new and exciting career. Are you excited yet?
