Stepping Up to Leadership

Through the implementation of our Quit Losing Talent Framework, we help organizations add millions to their bottom line by developing their leaders and fostering company cultures that WIN, KEEP, and INSPIRE employees
Being in a position of leadership, whether that be at the C-suite level, department level, or managerial level, you find out along the way that there’s more to being an effective leader than you thought.
?
Maybe you’ve always sought to be in a position like you’re in, or maybe you received a promotion when you weren’t truly ready for what you were about to endure.
?
However you ended up where you are, you will always have room to grow and things to learn. Let’s look at a few key insights that will always prove true in terms of leadership.
?
1. Develop Yourself to Develop People
Without the team of people you are leading, no matter how big or small, the success you are achieving isn’t possible. So, your primary objective should be to develop the people of your team to their potential to in turn improve their efficiency and effectiveness. Although, you won’t be able to do this without first developing yourself. You must first take control of your own improvement to inspire the improvement of others. Lead the way, learn the ins and outs of leadership, and you will be more equipped to lead your team.
?
2. Transactional vs. Relational Leadership
Most leaders simply expect ever-improving performance from their team without ever acknowledging their true worth. They think, “They get paid, they should perform.” While it may be their job, they will never reach their true potential without great leadership. Make an effort to build deeper and stronger relationships with your people and you will be in a better position to lead and support them in pursuit of each of your goals.
?
3. Seek First to Understand
One of the 7 habits from Stephen Covey is to “seek first to understand, then be understood.” Instead of always assuming you have all the information you need to preach your mind, seek first to understand. Be intentional in the questions you ask people. Understand their perspectives and unique points of view. From there, you will have the knowledge you need to give effective advice.
