You might be interested in stepping into the world of Information Technology. However, you might come from a non-IT background, and sometimes you want to carry your present non-IT knowledge along the journey of IT in the years/ decades to come.
In this post, I will demonstrate how your non-IT knowledge can be used in the IT journey by picking up your stream based on your non-IT interests. Although this is a fraction of the possibilities/specialities I am covering here, I want to emphasize on the fact that, the opportunity to thrive on your pre-existing non-IT knowledge in the ocean of IT is limited to your imagination.
? Mathematics, Numbers, Formulas: Data Science or Data Analysis: This field heavily involves mathematical concepts, statistics, and algorithms to derive insights from data. People who are interested in numbers and formulas can excel in roles related to data analysis, machine learning, or artificial intelligence.
? Law, Jurisdiction & Legal Frameworks: Cybersecurity and Compliance: IT security and compliance roles deal with legal frameworks, ensuring that technology and data management comply with laws and regulations. Roles like cybersecurity analyst, compliance officer, or digital forensics expert often require understanding legal aspects alongside technical skills.
? Medicine, Human Biology: Health Informatics or Medical IT: This field merges healthcare with technology, focusing on managing medical data, electronic health records, or developing medical software/apps. Roles like health informatics specialist, medical data analyst, or bioinformatics researcher can be suitable.
? Finance, Stocks, Shares: Financial Technology (FinTech): Involves the intersection of finance and technology, dealing with software, applications, and platforms that facilitate financial services. Roles include financial software developer, quantitative analyst, or blockchain specialist (not exclusive for the financial industry though).
? Sports, Outdoor Activities, Physical Exercises: Sports Technology or Sports Analytics: This field combines sports with technology, involving the use of data analytics, wearable devices, and software to improve athletic performance. Roles can include sports data analyst, sports technology consultant, or fitness app developer.

? Chemistry, Laboratory Experiments, DNA Amplification: Bioinformatics or Computational Chemistry: These fields merge biology/chemistry with IT, focusing on analyzing biological/chemical data through computational methods. Roles include bioinformatics scientist, computational chemist, or laboratory information management system (LIMS) specialist.
? Telecommunication, Drawing/Designing Wiring Diagrams: Network Engineering or Telecommunications: Involves designing, implementing, and managing communication networks. Roles like network engineer, telecommunications specialist, or network architect involve creating and optimizing network infrastructures.
? Architects, Home Design & Improvements, Garden Designs: Architectural Visualization: Involves creating realistic visual representations of architectural designs using software like AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, or 3ds Max. Someone can specialize in creating 3D models, renderings, and virtual walkthroughs of buildings and landscapes. Involves using VR/AR technologies to create immersive experiences for architectural designs. Those who are interested in architecting can focus on developing applications that allow clients to virtually explore and experience proposed designs before construction.
In each instance, one can pursue further education or certifications in their chosen IT stream to gain the necessary skills and expertise. Additionally, internships, online courses, and networking within their chosen field can provide valuable practical experience and exposure to relevant industries.
