Stepping Back into Writing

Stepping Back into Writing

I just converted my LinkedIn account to focus more on content generation. This is the most concrete step I've taken in over a decade to dedicate more time to write. So I'll be publishing my work here on LinkedIn and on my Medium account.

These words, opinions and analysis, are my own and do not represent Evidencity or Southern Pulse. Here goes:

In March 2016, I left my full time post at Southern Pulse to focus my efforts on building a new company called Evidencity. I’ve been running both companies, with a great deal of help, since then. Both nearly failed. Yet both are still alive, and today set up for an exciting year in 2023. Strong teams manage the day to day at both companies, a fact that now allows me to spend some time reflecting and writing. I want to share my writing with you.

My career began as a journalist. I’ve written books and speeches. I’ve worked on screen plays and novels. But for the past ten years or so I’ve written mostly emails. It’s time to knock the dust off my keyboard and get back to smithing words.?

Here’s what I’m going to be writing about.

First, how to be an entrepreneur: I have been starting and building companies since the late 1990s, when some friends and I took a leap of faith to begin a business in Chile. I have reached mountain tops, walked through valleys, raised capital, closed countless deals, and have learned valuable strategies, tactics, and tips along the way. Tagged #irrationaloptimism

Second, how to fail well: I have failed. It’s a hard statement to write, but it’s true. My failures at Southern Pulse nearly took me out of the game. They’re real, hard to write about, but important to pick apart and extract meaning. At Evidencity, we define failure as an unwillingness to learn. This series of pieces will share what I’ve learned. Tagged: #steppingstones

Third, what I’m watching: I’ve looked at the world through the lens of the economics of black markets since the early 2000s. I am a Latin Americanist at heart and by training, but I’ve been watching the world for a long time. These pieces will share my take on what I’m watching, my analysis, and why I think it matters. You may disagree, but I don’t mind. Tagged: #kaleidoscope

Finally, what I’ve done. I’ve sat across the table from billionaires and assassins. I’ve trained intelligence analysts, developed complex source networks, and have managed dozens of assets. Most of what I’ve done has been within the realm of collecting and selling information. These pieces will be narrative and nonfiction – my favorite genre. Tagged: #accidentalspy

Até mais...(see you later).
