Step into the World of How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies
If it's not 'Talat Phlu,' it's not 'How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies.'
Talat Phlu, one of the key locations in the film How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, serves as both the setting for Amah's home and the neighborhood where she has lived for many decades. It has become so closely associated with her that it's fair to say Amah is a person of Talat Phlu. The inspiration for this location comes from Thodsapon 'Ped' Thiptinnakorn, the screenwriter, who drew from the real-life story of his own Amah, who lived in Talat Phlu, and transformed it into the narrative of the film.
Producer Jira Maligool shares that he fell in love with the charm of Talat Phlu—its tight-knit community, its way of life near the Bangkok Noi canal, and the early-era trains of Thailand that run through Talat Phlu to Wongwian Yai all day long. The grand temples that stand side by side with delicious food stalls, along with the proximity of the MRT station, attract people from all walks of life to stop by for tasty meals and pay respects before leaving. This has made Talat Phlu one of the film’s most captivating elements.
But how does the Talat Phlu in How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies differ from the real-life Talat Phlu? Check out these fun facts below before checking in to the area filled with memories of M and Amah. Everyone can simply take the MRT to Tha Phra Station to fully experience its charm.
In Film: Amah's porridge shop opens early in the morning, but her mischievous grandson has never managed to get there in time. Nevertheless, it remains a place that creates a deep bond and beautiful memories between M and Amah.
In Fact: Originally a fish maw stall, the location was transformed by our production team into Amah’s congee shop. Interestingly, there is a real congee shop in Talat Phlu called "Amah’s Congee," but it is not located in the same spot as the one seen in the film.
In Film: The railway tracks at Talat Phlu station aren’t just an iconic landmark of the neighborhood—they’re also the symbolic link between two generations: Amah and M.
In Fact: Director Pat Boonnitipat and Location Manager designed the journey to and from Amah and M’s congee shop to follow the train tracks. The route passes by spots like Simgek’s shop, a fried fish stall, and Siam Savings Bank—locations the crew built from scratch for How to Make Millions Before Grandma Dies, turning them into lasting memories for Amah and M.
In Film: The small bridge leading into Talat Phlu is a place M and Amah passed by often. It has become another spot filled with memories they share together.
In Fact: This bridge is located just past the Talat Phlu train platform, with colorful flowers lining the path. Anyone who has been to Talat Phlu will definitely recognize which bridge this is.
