Step up as an SDR with Ty Washington's six best tips

Four months ago, Tyler Washington ??? wanted to break into a tech company as an SDR.

He soaked up advice wherever he could find it, got a SaaS sales leader as a mentor, built a plan of action, and went after his goal.

Now, he's a standout team member here at Falkon and he regularly shares what he learns, tries, and discovers. All the while, he leads with his authentic self.

We asked Ty to sum up his top tips for people who are a few months behind him in their journeys.

Tips to become a rockstar SDR

  1. When you're trying to get hired, go after the hiring manager the same way you'd go after a prospect. Stay persistent, be creative, and get past the noise.
  2. Do what works for you. Remember: what works for sales gurus you see online may not be right for you. Focus on your strengths, have fun, and don't be afraid to try new things.
  3. Create a plan of action. Know your goals and set up your daily tasks. If you're not the best cold caller, show your leadership that you have a different plan to hit quota.
  4. Figure it out! Don't wait for someone to tell you what to do or how to succeed. Do your research. Break things. Find out what works by trying.
  5. Go beyond cold calling and emailing. Level up your skills by getting a mentor and getting to know people in other departments.
  6. Build your personal brand. Show people that you're an actual person. Nobody plans to be an SDR forever, so put your personality out there and let people see that you're a future leader.
