Step into the Sacred
When I take a person out for a portrait session, and we go to one of my special locations, it’s very personal and very sacred. I hope this person is not angry with me for using this photo, but it’s a perfect example of what I mean. This is the kind of photography I was born to do. Because I love nature, and I love Marin County, and I have been exploring it for years, I know of many of these sacred locations and it almost seems as if it’s all been in preparation for this chapter in my life. I use my intuition to marry the person with the geography and usually find that the combinations work well. If I had my way this is all I would do. I like doing headshots for companies, and I like doing business headshots too, but there’s something very special about being in the woods, or in a meadow, or on a beach with someone who feels the way I do about the natural world. I am a guide, a location scout, a seer, who works with you to find a balance - the right light, the right texture, the right metaphor. Maybe one day I’ll bring a whole team out in a van and we’ll shoot in the woods, but I don’t know if the ‘technique’ transfers to groups of people. But I’m willing to try, If you’ve read this far I’ll tell you this, it’s not just about the end product, the photographs. It’s about the whole experience of being seen, being vulnerable, being willing to step just outside your comfort zone and into the world around us. If I could sum up what I do it would be like this - I take you into the sacred to reveal something sacred. Is that too heavy for this world?
