A Step in the Right Direction: Eastside Memorial ECHS

901 Neal St. is the new home of Eastside Memorial Early College High School. The project began planning in 2017 and is currently under construction.

With a planned capacity of 800 students, the school will provide college credit opportunities to high school students.

Originally developed in 1953, Eastside Memorial High School is well overdo for an upgrade. The school will be moving from its current location at 1012 Arthur Stiles Rd, and the footprint will be replaced by the Liberal Arts and Science Academy.

Historically, schools in East Austin have lagged behind the rest of Austin ISD, but things may soon be changing. With an emphasis on STEM college and career opportunities, Eastside Memorial ECHS hopes to raise the bar on education standards.

With a projected cost of $80,699,000, the city is once again showing their commitment to revitalizing East Austin. Construction is being handled by Cadence McShane, a formidable group that has experience building numerous education projects in each of Texas' four major metros.

The project is currently on schedule and should be completed in time for the Fall 2021 school year.
