?“I learned a lot of things, but the most important thing is: HOW to get out from my comfort zone.” This was one of the feedback comments I received from a participant in a project on adult learning in Iraq.?It was a project for several months where staff from Médecins du Monde (MdM), the national NGOs Harikar, Doctors Aid Medical activities (DAMA), Public Aid Organization (PAO) and staff working with the Ministry of Health were trained on adult learning principles. Throughout the project the term comfort zone came back, as participants practiced new training methods they had not used before. It was difficult for some to come out of their comfort zone, but when they did they received wonderful feedback and they shined.?
The comfort zone is the area where we feel safe and comfortable; we are familiar with what is in our comfort zone; we can?predict what will happen and how we will deal with it. We rely on our routines and generally we are not challenged. We feel comfortable.
Why should we step out of our comfort zone??
