A little re-introduction:
Hello! I’m Dee the storyteller. I tell stories through writing fiction, writing music, writing articles, etc. Last year I expanded on a part of storytelling people have continuously said I am good at, speaking.
I started a podcast for people in their twenties as a safe space to talk about the struggles we face and just everyday life.
I love research, so before starting the podcast, I dove into weeks of understanding how podcasts work.?
As an avid podcast listener, I knew exactly how I wanted my podcast to be.?
After all the research, I created the podcast and I recorded my first episode with my friends.
Then came the problem; the episode was funny and nice but it wasn’t like the podcasts I listen to.?
So you know what I did? Nothing.
I recorded the episode and did not edit or upload it for a month.?
I thought I sounded funny, the interview was not coming naturally, there were some awkward breaks here and there. So I abandoned the project for one month.?
At first I thought it was not meant to be, but every time I would listen to other podcasts, I would feel a yearning for mine.?
One day, while scrolling through my favorite podcast, I felt a push to listen to their first ever episode. ?
I was so shocked. The first episode was 5 years prior and they sounded just like me. Sure there were jokes but they also had awkward pauses.?
From this one podcast, I went down a rabbit hole of listening to the first episodes of all my favorite podcasts and looking through to the first posts on their Instagram pages. I also went as far as watching the first videos of my favorite YouTubers.?
They all had one thing in common, they started off awkward. In fact, I couldn’t watch the first video of my favorite YouTube group. The disparity between them now and then was way too much??
By the time I finished this exercise, I was ready to begin mine.?

A lot of the time, we are scared to begin because you’re comparing your first step with somebody’s hundredth. You don’t even know how they got there.?
You think the people you look up to just woke up one day and found themselves up there? Think again.?
People may seem so talented and even "perfect" now but I can assure you they didn’t start that way. They got there through consistency, hard work, making lots of mistakes and learning from them.?
My favorite YouTube group has been posting videos for 10 years. They have so many brands, camera crews, bodyguards, millions and even a Netflix documentary in the works. But they started doing videos with their phones and you should see the videos, you can get a better quality with your phone today.?
So what are you waiting for??
Don’t be like me comparing my episode one to someone’s episode 100, it's an unfair comparison. To get to the top, you have to start from the bottom and keep climbing. It’s best you start now because the bottom is inevitable.
EXERCISE FOR THE WEEK: This week, my exercise for you is to do research on the people you look up to in your field. You want to be a social media influencer? go to the first post of your favorite influencer. You want to be a YouTuber? watch your favorite YouTuber's first video. You want to be in business, read the biography of your role models. You’ll be so shocked that you’re even starting out better than they did.
PS: This is the last day to be a part of the FREE 5 DAY COURSE ON GOALSETTING!?
Make sure you get in on it before the group closes at midnight.?See you there!
I wish you the very best this week?
See you next Sunday!
Your trusty growth partner,
Dee?
