STEP needs you to "...do something positive..." on its Board

Today, Inauguration Day 2017, had two sticky moments for me.

The first was Senator Schumer discussing the Civil War letter from Major Sullivan Ballou (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNfBdzpG6L4) to his wife describing his 'need' to serve his nation to ensure her protection at the potential expense of his life. This dedication lives today in the hearts our young military, as it did in my heart, as it did in my father's heart and so many others before and after. Let us be clear that our nation exists only because it has been defended by individuals.

Support The Enlisted Project (STEP) was born from the idea that we can do better by our young military families and we have made good on that promise. Our military folks endure enormous hardships and sacrifices, while the majority of them earn a low-income wage. In our first four years, 3,147 military families in Southern California came to STEP in a financial crisis - a pending/eminent loss of a basic necessity - and STEP stopped every loss for qualifying families through its individualized financial counseling and by granting $1.3m to military family creditors. In those four years, we halted, among other things, 319 utility disconnections, 268 auto repossessions and 293 housing evictions for our military families. And 93% of the families served did not need to return for additional assistance. STEP works and gets our military families on the path to financial self-sufficiency.

The second sticky moment was when our now 45th President of the United States stated that you should "...do something positive and productive for our nation this year."

I feel I am doing something positive and productive with STEP, by supporting our under-served and vulnerable young military families - and the call to action - I am looking to expand STEP's Board of Directors by four in 2017. If you want to follow our President's call and serve the Major Ballou's of today, I welcome your application at the following link. https://www.volunteermatch.org/search/opp2576045.jsp

Tony - good insight. E

This is awesome! I've been looking for a non-profit to volunterr my time and corporate experience by helping the military community I am part of. I am waiting to get confirmation on new orders, hoping we get to stay in SD. if so I'd like to join. Please keep me on your list.
