Our only security is our ability to change.
"I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better." – Georg C. Lichtenburg.
When we talk about adapting to change or inculcating a new habit, it requires time and lots of efforts. Mind plays a major role in this situation. First we need to understand the human mindset / psychology. Habit is developed over a period of time and cannot happen in one single day. It required persistence. While training, its important to use human psychology and multiply its effect to smoothen the change process. Humans have tendency to go for the easy option and as a result whenever we start something new we often fall back to our older life/habits. As rightly said,"Change is opportunity." - Suresh Prabhu, Minister of Commerce & Industry. To over come this we need to have a strong motivation to complete the change process. And when we start seeing the results, we automatically feel inspired to do more / put-in more efforts in order to reach the desired state/ final outcome.
We need to get the answers of the following three pointers in order to develop a new habit:
- Why: The reason for developing the new habit needs to be clear from the day one. Why do you want to undergo the certain change process? If you are planning to learn driving or quit smoking; you should know the reason behind it. In case you are planing to develop the habit of reading, it could be because you want to become a writer and learn the art of storytelling or you want to develop a new hobby or you you want to improve your language. Reason could be anything, but having the right/genuine reason will push you to take the first step and start the journey.
“Either you adapt to change or be changed by it.” ― Bernard Kelvin Clive
- What: Knowing the final outcome will be a great motivator to achieve the end point. What will you get out of it? While developing the habit of reading you would know what the final outcome will be. And you will ensure that you stick to the plan and follow it through. The end result will push you / motivate you to accept the change and follow the lead.
- How: Having the road map will guide you time to time and help you through all the road blocks. How to achieve the desired outcome? Having clarity and visibility of near future will make you feel relaxed and help your mind to concentrate better. Humans are scared of uncertain / unknown but you can't achieve anything if you are scared. Wise people know, key to change is.... to let go of fear. It can't be eliminated but it can be reduced to a level where mind is at peace. Through constant analysis of current situation you can modify the road map and make the path look more clear / hassle free.
Lastly, I would suggest you to treat yourself with rewards/gifts once you achieve every level. It will act as another motivating factor and will also make the entire process enjoyable/fun.
Keep Learning. Keep Growing.
