How to use Direct to Film Printing ?

Direct-to-film (DTF) printing is an innovative printing technique that involves printing designs onto special films, which are then transferred onto garments. This method uses heat transfer and ensures durability comparable to traditional screen printing.

The versatility of DTF printing is truly remarkable. It allows us to pre-print transfers and apply them when needed. In addition, DTF transfers can be effectively applied to a wide range of surfaces and items that would typically be challenging with traditional printing methods.

We've outlined the 6 steps to using Direct to Film Printing :

First step: Choose your image

To get started, you'll need to either create or purchase a digital image of your desired design. Use graphic design software to adjust the size and resolution of the image to match the desired dimensions of your garment. It's important that the image is high resolution for best results.

Second step: The ink

Prepare your printer for printing by pouring the ARStyle water based inks into the tanks. Strongly shake the white ink before loading. It's important to follow the manufacturer's loading instructions carefully to ensure proper setup and operation.

Step three: Print the image

Now print the image onto the transfer film, usually on the matt side of the film. Once the design has been successfully printed on the film, spread the adhesive powder on the film, ensuring that the entire print is evenly coated with the powder. Gently shake or brush off any excess adhesive.

Step four : Heat the transfer powder

The next step is to fuse the transfer powder, ink and film together by applying heat. This is achieved by placing the printed transfer film in a pre-heated oven or a nearly closed heat press. The recommended temperature for this process is of 160°C (320°F) and the duration should be approximately 1 minutes. Allow the heat to facilitate the bonding reaction between the components to ensure a durable and long lasting transfer.

Step five : Transfer the image

Now it's time to transfer the image onto the fabric. Place the printed film on the desired area of the fabric and align carefully. Apply pressure by pressing them together to ensure that they are held firmly in place. The recommended temperature for this step is 160°C (320°F) and the pressing time should be approximately 15 seconds. Depending on the specific film being used, this transfer process can be performed while the film is still hot or after it has cooled.

Last step : The result

The end result is a durable, flexible and soft-to-the-touch product. Garments printed with ARStyle inks are designed to withstand repeated wash cycles without compromising print quality.
