A Step-by-step Example of Creating Personalized Content at Scale with Gen AI

There’s a lot of advice out there urging consumer businesses to “just get started” with AI for personalization. But what exactly does that look like in practice??

We thought we’d help make things a little clearer by laying out an example, the tools to use, and the steps to take.?

To do this, we partnered with Databricks to document a workflow that technical teams can build and business teams can use for customizing product descriptions based on a customer’s preferences, engagement history, and other attributes.

This workflow requires:

  • Audience segments and attributes as defined by our marketers?
  • A central repository of marketing content??
  • Access to a generative AI model that will create customized messaging?

We pulled audience segments and attributes from Amperity, where data was exposed to the Databricks lakehouse architecture in a zero-copy manner. This allows seamless integration of customer information like marketing segment definitions with both product descriptions and generative AI capabilities available through the Databricks platform.

It turns out that it’s fairly straightforward to “just get started” with AI. This example focuses on personalizing product descriptions, but it can easily be adapted for email subject lines, SMS messaging, website experiences, and more.?

Finally, the gap between personalization and scale is narrowing, and we’re here for it!
