Step 6: How to make money with your book before it’s even published

Step 6: How to make money with your book before it’s even published

IN THE LAST LESSON YOU LEARNED

In the last lesson on my Big Impact Book Writing System, you learned how to choose the right monetization strategy for your book.?

In other words, you learned the three fundamental ways you can make money with your book.?And you discovered that these different ways influence how you should structure your book and write it, so it can actually achieve your goals for it.

IN TODAY’S LESSON YOU’LL DISCOVER

In today’s lesson, you’ll learn Step #6 of the system, how to make money with your book while you’re still writing it.?In other words, how to generate revenue before your book is even published.?

There are many easy ways to do it -- yet almost no one knows to use them.?

And they’re a terrific strategy to use while we’re quarantined at home and communicating by email, Zoom, etc. with everyone.

WHY IT’S SO IMPORTANT

While you are writing your book, there are many simple ways to just share a little news about the book you are writing and generate revenue from it.?

Some of my students have used them to bring in $150,000 in new revenue before the book is even published.?

The methods cost nothing and take only minutes or seconds to use.?

And if you are writing a book now, you can start using them and testing them out immediately.???

Discovering how to make money with your book before it’s even published is a great way to pay the expenses involved with writing and publishing your book.?I’ve had many students do that.

It can also compensate you upfront for the time you’re investing to write and publish it.?

STEP #6: MAKE MONEY WITH YOUR BOOK BEFORE IT’S EVEN PUBLISHED

Therefore, Step #6 of this system is “Make Money with Your Book Before it’s Even Published”

There are many ways to do it.??

Today you’ll discover three of the easiest, no-cost ways to get started.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT THIS STEP

Here are three of the easiest, time-proven ways to start generating revenue from your book?before it’s published.

Keep in mind that your success with them will be dramatically increased if you have a hot title (or working title, at this stage) for your book. You’ll learn how to create such a title in the next Step.

As you’ll see these are disarmingly simple ways to make money with your book while you are actually writing it.?If you are writing a book right now, you can begin using them immediately.

First, it’s important to start by understanding why they work.?

For 3,000 years, books have been the carriers of knowledge from one generation to another, with book authors being the "go to" authorities of that generation.??

?This has made a book the undisputed symbol of authority.

This is so powerful that just stating in a conversation or email that you are the author of a forthcoming book (which is an industry-standard way of saying you’re writing a book) instantly re-positions you from being just another professional or business owner or whatever in your field to being an authority.?

Etymologically, in other words, in the history of the word, the word “Authority” came from the word “Author.”?Authors are known to be authorities.

Time and again this has proven to boost credibility instantly and attract new clients, even though you’re still writing your book.?

Here’s the first way:

PUT THIS NEWS IN YOUR ELEVATOR SPEECH

An “elevator speech” is what you say when someone ask you what you do for a living.

Just add to your elevator speech that you’re the author of a forthcoming book, and mention the book’s working title.

Here’s a hypothetical example of what to say: “I’m Susan Smith and I work with women who want superior investment returns through socially-conscious investments.?I’m the author of the forthcoming book Today's 10 Best Socially-Conscious Investments.

For instance, consultant Michael Cannon began using this method consistently with new prospects as soon as he started writing his book's first draft.

After four months of testing it, he reported, "I've been getting 30-40% more first meetings with CEO prospects and a 25% increase in those who close. I've also been getting less negotiation on price, because they perceive me as an authority."?

Do the math on that and you’ll see it's given him a geometric increase in his results attracting new clients.

Here’s another way:

PUT THIS NEWS IN YOUR EMAIL SIGNATURE LINE

In your standard email signature line, set up a separate line saying “Author of the forthcoming book” then insert your hot working title and subtitle.

For a credible-looking job, use industry-standard formatting such as Times Roman italics for your working title and subtitle.?

For example, professional service provider Jeanna Pool started working with me and did this.?She reported taking just 3 minutes to use this method in the email signature line she uses in all her emails.?She said it brought her 2 new clients and an extra $25,000 during the first 30 days.

Here’s a third way:

PUT THIS NEWS IN YOUR SOCIAL MEDIA

Discover the social media platform that your clients and prospective clients use most.?Perhaps it’s LinkedIn or Facebook. Nowadays, Pinterest and Instagram are increasingly powerful marketing tools to reach certain other target markets.

Whichever social media platform it happens to be, the key is to keep your profile and title current with the fact that you are the “Author of the forthcoming book” then insert your hot working title and subtitle.

For example, Christy, one of the coaches who coaches my students with me, was awarded a $3,500, 1-day training contract in a highly competitive situation. She found out it was because she announced she was the author of a forthcoming book in her title and profile on both LinkedIn and Facebook.

Christy emphasized that it’s very important to keep LinkedIn current.?It’s almost a professional Yellow Pages for meeting planners (who hire trainers and speakers—nowadays, to fill virtual speaking opportunities).?The same is true if you want to reach corporations (managers and leaders) who make purchasing decisions.

There are also more advanced ways to generate revenue with your book before it’s published. Typically, they make much more money. But they go beyond the scope of this mini-course.

THE BENEFITS

Using these techniques to make money with your book before it’s published has many benefits.?They include:

  1. You’ll get clients and speaking engagements (virtual speaking gigs nowadays) even while you’re writing your book.
  2. Your book-writing project can be self-funding.
  3. Just knowing that you are writing a book causes your prospects to see you as an authority.
  4. These simple methods cost nothing and take only minutes or seconds to use.
