I've spoken to a few people recently who have said about their content that they've written it for themselves.?Writing is cathartic.?Writing is thinking in practice.?When we write we are taking thoughts and turning them into words.?And it's got lots of proven benefits, thats one of the reasons journalling is powerful.?But when it comes to writing content for your business we're told time and time again to not make it all about us.?
I've written plenty of content and later realised that what I've written was actually what I needed to hear.?But then I've second guessed myself; is this content about me and for me? Will anyone care about this? Am I just publishing my own personal pep talk? But here's why I think thats a good thing.
I know that in 4.5 years of running a business I am not the only person who has experienced the problems, fears and worries that come up for me.?I know that I'm not so special that I am the only person whose mind monkeys are jumping up and down about email unsubscribes or crappy launches.?And so in the particular field in which I work, I've become the expert at identifying, overcoming and solving these problems.?So it makes perfect sense for me to share what I've learned.?
Writers are always being told "write about what you know - I know imposter syndrome, I know fear of judgement, I know connection and social media marketing. I know what it's like to worry when you get crickets on your social posts and think no-ones listening.?So that's what I talk about.

There are currently over 875 million users on LinkedIn - you are not the only person who feels the way you feel.?
If you write a post about the problems you struggle with and the problems you solve the chances are high that out of 875 million users there are going to be at least a few people who are struggling with the same issue and feel the same way you do.?
You get to decide to what to talk about, and if it's important to you it's important full stop.?
The next time you write a post or an email or a blog and you think "Have I written this for myself" maybe you have but everything you do should be for you first.?If you're not going to do it for yourself why do it at all?
And the next time you ask yourself "will anyone care about this?" remember that there's 875 million users on LinkedIn alone.?The chances are that someone cares, the only question is will they see it.?And if you don't share it, they definitely won't.?
