STEM running in the family

Yesterday my daughter’s oldest son told me he was walking down the hall with his brother and the other students were calling out to his brother. His comment reminded me of when I would pick this three year old from his paternal grandmother’s early education school.

We would always stop at the McDonald’s with a playhouse. Just as we walked through the door the ladies and children would call out my grandson’s name. It was as if this baby was some sort of the movie star.

What is special about my daughter’s baby is he is academically gifted like his mother. When I chatted with the baby about school he says he wants to get top grades as his mother did. The baby told me that his mother is introducing him to concepts of calculus while he is in the second grade. His mother was a gifted STEM child who went to Cornell University to earn a BS and a MS in Mechanical Engineering.

I must admit I miss going to the McDonald’s with the baby. I am reminded of the one time I tried to sneak by McDonald’s and the baby pointed out the restaurant by calling my attention to it.

I guess I am lucky because I now have a 1+ years old great grandson who appears to be academically gifted. My wife Gwynelle who was gifted child reads and cuddles this baby.
