STEM Outreach: The Journey of a Sound
Forever Audio
For World Class Audio Services | Audio Creative, Post Production, Media, Music, Digital & Long-Form Audio
As part of our STEM ambassadorship programme, we took a pledge to support young people to learn more about the world of audio engineering. Our Co-Founder and Director Seb Juviler recently delivered a session on the science behind sound to two schools in Milton Keynes!
Adapted from a presentation we created for National Science Week during lockdown, the 40-minute interactive session called ‘The Journey of a Sound’ looked at how a blue whale creates its call, how this sound travels through water across vast distances and how the call is then captured, manipulated and can be used creatively by sound designers. We looked at all of the job roles involved along the way including acousticians, computer scientists, and of course foley artists, sound designers and mix engineers.
Seb gave the presentation to a school hall of 90 Year 4 pupils at Oxley Park Academy and a Year 3 class later that morning, at Cold Harbour School.
Seb said: “It was just lovely to present live in person, rather than online. The pupils were really engaged and who knows, perhaps someone in that class is the next Hans Zimmer! We love the work we do for STEM. We host regular workplace visits at our own studios for sixth formers from local schools, and have so far opened hundreds of kids’ eyes to the wonders of the audio creative and audio post industry, who otherwise may have never heard about it at all.”
