STEM Edition - Teaching Product Evaluations

Product Evaluations are critical to selecting the right solution for your organization!

My 2 girls are starting to think about make up, perfume and skin care.. They are only 8 and 11 years old.. so this does worry me on what I have gotten myself into. That said, if you can couple interests with learning then it is a great way to help expand how people see the world.

PRODUCT Evaluation

  1. Customer Usage - We discussed as a family when is or is not appropriate to use scents and defined that my youngest daughter could use it for special events and my oldest on a daily basis in moderation. We also discussed key criteria such as it can't be harmful to kids or have a scent that is overwhelming
  2. Scope - We took all the perfumes readily available and put them on the table
  3. Stacked Ranking - Each daughter organized the perfumes in order of their preference
  4. Quantitative Scoring - We compared each others answer to see which had the highest combined score using the average score
  5. Qualitative - Documenting Pro's and Con's - I asked them why they like it. Explain what they observe, smell, feel, think. What do they like about it and not like about it
  6. Company Profile - We discussed if the company was a name-brand or smaller company and how it is important to understand the leadership and product development side as something maybe great today but if certain aspects are changed out over time such as to weaker or less healthy ingredients it is important to know your suppliers, their culture and values
  7. Additional Research - We downloaded some app's on their phones that allowed us to scan the barcodes and tell us if there were any ingredients that couple be harmful to children

Conclusion

In the end we selected a MIST which is less intrusive for kids young skin and has a faint scent

Everyone was happy as they were part of the process, understood the criteria and were able to have their voices heard.
